Gettin' out of town

Here's something we need to do more often: GET AWAY! Not a big ol' vacation, just a little road trip.  Although, I will admit that packing with babies is the same if you go for a week or a night and sometimes it feels like you should just go for a while if you are going to go to all that trouble of packing it all up.  That is exactly the attitude that had been keeping me from wanting to get away for the weekend.  But for Woody's birthday he wanted to go to Kentucky Lake...so we went.
A good road trip, in my mind, involves a picnic.  Perhaps that comes from eating pimento cheese sandwiches at welcome station picnic areas as a kid or perhaps it is the RD in me who hates fast food.  Woody's idea of a good time always involves fast food.  Thankfully, I won this little battle.  As I type and see in the context of this being Woody's birthday present, I'm feeling guilty about that victory.

Will did great on this trip.  My kids are always more flexible that I give them credit for being.  Will has also turned 10 months since my last blog entry.  More 10 month updates on him to come.

Hope's big victory for the trip was learning to jump in without holding hands.  It was a big leap of faith for her.

But she learned that Dad will always catch her!

Wilson LOVES water.  He is so fun to swim with!

SPLASH!

Ahh, sweet memories

See those mischievous eyes peaking in the back of the float.  Those are Dad's eyes and they are about to give Wilson a big surprise.  Fun loving Will is always up for a big surprise though.

Now, Grammy and Pappy...take a deep breath.  These pictures are almost a month old because we had made Hope promise not to ever mention to Grammy and Pappy about this next little adventure.  But, in the spirit of not teaching our children to be deceptive I share them with you today.

We took the kids out in a paddle boat.  Hope did beautifully and we knew she would.  But Will, we were slightly nervous about.  He is not known for being good at sitting still.  But that life jacket must have reminded him of the old swaddle blanket days.  He sat right between Woody and me and rested those chubby cheeks on his big life jacket and went right to sleep.  He slept the whole trip.  Next time maybe we will try a big boat day on a big boat, but by next time Will will be walking and may try to jump right in the water.  We'll see.
