little update
Just a little update: Hope is officially on the move! It's an army crawl, but it's a crawl. I tried to motivate her with putting toys out of reach, but then I found the cell phone! Just like a typical girl, Hope loves to chat on the phone...okay she prefers to eat the phone. She did what it took to get to that! Way to go little Hope!

Hope Floats!
As promised...here's the pool pictures. We had a wonderful time at the pool today. Hope really likes her lily pad to float in. Her little legs kicking around were so precious! She was all grins...until the waves came on. She quickly let us know she prefers to sit in Mommy's lap in the shallow end and kick at those waves.
We're already having to chase away the fellas! When we got our lab, Daisy, I thought she was the best way to meet people. Folks just come up and talk to people with dogs. That was nothing compared to having a baby. Children flock to us. Hope really loves kids.
How cute is that chubby little arm? I promise not as cute as the chubby thighs in that bathing suit!

It's not everyday...
There are 2 groups of people I just don't trust: doctors and car people. I know there are good folks who are doctors and good folks who work on/sell/deal with cars, but as a whole this is where my prejudices lie. But, when I'm wrong I like to admit it and it seems I've been wrong about a car person. Here's the story:
This past January, Woody and I bought a Toyota 4Runner. It's used, but seemed to be in really great shape (even though it was in the discount section of the car lot.). I hadn't gotten the oil changed since we bought it. That's 6 months now. The sticker in the window said it's not due for servicing for another 750 miles, but still...6 months?! So I took it to the Valvoline Oil Change place over by Carter/Parish Ave. Woody had already prepped me with all the "no sir, I don't want to change that filter or replace that gadget right now" responses. Only an oil change. Usually, I think these people make stuff up just to see if they can get the "little lady inside" to fall for it.
When the man working on my car came in holding the oil stick (am I giving away how little I know about cars?) I took a deep breath- waiting for the lecture on how my oil was all gone and don't I know how to check the oil level? You can imagine my surprise when he said "Ma'am here's the color of the oil and it's still full. No fluid levels are low and I'd be wasting your money to give you an oil change today. Come back in 750 more miles." I was stunned. I asked if that was the color it was supposed to be and he reassured me that it looked great. Can you believe that? He could have totally ripped me off and charged $40.00 for an oil change and I'd never have been the wiser! In the spirit of this economy and also in the spirit of Woody's and my determination to save save save, I felt very blessed!
Thanks Valvoline man!

The Wedding Singer
Hope attended her first wedding this weekend. It was at Lincoln National Park and then a reception at Christmas Lake Village. The bride and groom rode to the reception in a horse drawn carriage. So, Hope met her first horse...at least I don't think she's met Pappy's horse, "Whoa Damn-it" (Pappy really needs to re-name his horse before Luke comes to town!) She really seemed to like it. She pet its nose and didn't seem afraid at all.
Another first: her first trip to the pool. Here she is getting greased up and ready to head out. No pictures from the pool since I took her by myself and couldn't also deal with a camera, but as soon as Dad comes we'll get some. I've never seen anything more adorable than her chubby thighs kicking those waves!

Taste the rainbow
Well, Hope has tried her first green vegetable: asparagus. She was not a fan. This is her literally spitting it back in my face. It's so hard not to laugh...but you just can't!!
And we spent the weekend in Jingo! It was great. Woody and I got to golf, we had a bonfire: Larry Sansom style (I'll explain later), Hope played with the dogs, Woody swam, Daisy swam...and ate trash. Good times. Here's Hope and I protecting ourselves from the bugs. Don't you just love the mosquito netting? I'll have to start bringing it to the ballpark too.
And the bonfire: Woody says Big Pappy looked like Lucifer with his pitchfork (okay it was a shovel, but from a distance...). Jingo bonfires frustrate the camp counselor in me. I want to build my tee pee in a little dug out fire pit and roast marshmallows, etc. Maybe even cook a pot meal over it and keep building it up as we eat until it's big enough to keep warm by and gaze at while you sit and enjoy the stars. Not the way it works at the farm. You cut down trees from whatever storm- in this case the ice storm, add other random debris then pour gasoline and diesel fuel all over it. Next, throw a match or two and run for your lives. I'm not kidding we brought a little grill out to do the actual cooking. But, it's all part of the fun!
My project for the last few weeks has been to de-clutter. I'm even reading a book: Clutter's last stand. We have a virtual flea market in our "office". This is a picture of Hope in Woody's "Woody" hat from Toy Story. Don't worry all you Toy Story loving kids: the hat got to stay...just getting moved to the attic.
