Kitchen Floor Art Classes

We've been doing a lot of art work lately.  Water color and sculpting (i.e. playdough)are our specialties.   The picture at the top is Hope's.  It's a thunderstorm.  It happened to be storming the day we painted these.  Hope is afraid of storms.  I was feeling like playing pop child psychologist and decided to have her paint a storm so we could talk about it a little bit.  The bottom is my attempt at re-creating a piece of art from one of our library books "Hank Finds Inspiration."  That was the inspiration he found.  Sometime soon I'll post my thoughts on children's literature these days...
We also play playdough...a LOT!  Here's Hope's baseball glove.  It's one that we make every time we make anything.  Imagination is key in playdough sculpting!

Think outside the box! Sculpt with your feet, not just your hands!

This is her crayon and paper...a little easier to envision.

Too bad playdough doesn't stick very well.  Mustaches and ear rings are just hard to do.

Going a little more traditional route with cookie cutters.
Uh oh! Hope's gotta take this call! See ya next time!

Museum Day

It was a good way to spend the morning. We decided to head to the museum. During the winter, we discovered the Playzeum...a great little indoor playground when it's too cold to get outside...or when it's about 100 degrees outside and even the pools sound too hot. Hope had a good time here. There's a lot more than these picture show.
She must be getting bigger. Today she climbed in the tunnels all by herself. That's a first for her.

We packed a lunch and ate down with the other kiddos in the Mammoth Cafe.

The reason we chose today to head to the museum was that they were advertising a petting zoo. I told Hope we were going. She kept asking me where the monkeys were. She has a different idea of what a zoo is. The brave museum workers set the petting zoo up INSIDE. Who's going to clean this up? I need to know.

Hope was very timid at the petting zoo. See all the kids huddled in the background? They are petting geese and picking up turtles. Hope was terrified of the little animals. But the donkey - no problem.

They also had this. It's a....well, we'll call it a zedonkey. It's a cross between a zebra and donkey. Only in Owensboro, folks.
Oh, and they had a kangaroo. In my mind, kangaroos are much bigger. This little guy wasn't even as big as Hope. But he sure does like chips.

So there ya go. That's how we spent the morning. Now, my little worn out Hope is enjoying a nap. Cheers to naps!

Peanuts and Cracker Jacks

Where have we been all summer? You're looking at it. Yellow Creek Park Softball fields. It literally feels like we live there. No one could be happier about that than this man right here! I was trying to think how long Woody has been playing men's softball in the church league. I think it's 18 years. How's that for feelin' old? He wears the number 33 proudly. It happens to be his age this year (for a few more weeks) but he doesn't let his age show on the field! No sir.
Our league isn't exactly professional, but to us- it's intense, it's personal, your pride is on the line... but it's still just church league. Here's the umpire: We call him "Blue" but I think his real name is Mickey.

Now for the action! Woody at bat! This night he had a particularly good night! But, his base running stole the show. He tagged and scored on a pop fly to the catcher. For you baseball novices, that's most likely not happened before in all of his 18 years playing. Very rare. Very crowd pleasing!

For my loyal blog followers, you'll remember my post on cleaning W's pants. Here he is in the first inning...sliding of course. He was safe so it's all worth it.

Celebrating the slide...

Besides us, W's dad is his biggest fan. He likes to keep book, too. He's even better than me at keeping book!

For those of you who don't keep book... you need a pencil, not a pen. Not many people know this.

So what does Hope do during all of this? Oh, she tries to get autographs....

She plays in the water....

She drinks from her "big girl cup" and eats Teddy Grahams....

She flirts with boys.... What!?! She flirts with boys? What's going on here? Who is this kid? Where's Hope's Daddy?

His name is Isaiah. He looks nice enough, but we're keeping a better eye on this one!

Wish us luck! We're 1 game away from making it to the championship game!

Camp Sansom 2010

John's family came to town! Because we don't see them much, I took lots of pictures. I'll spare you all my commentary and just show you the photos. It's a tad long...7-8 minutes but if you're interested...
