Happy Trails

Ahh Spring. It is finally here.  Now, if that snowflake on my iPhone weather for Tuesday would just go away.   Most exciting about spring this year is the kids' new horse!  She does not have a name yet.  Well, she does, but not one that we gave her.  In the running: Puff, Windy, Sunny, and Rose. Plus whatever Luke wants to add to the mix.  She is a small horse, but not a pony. (Pappy says ponies can be mean.  No meanies on the farm.)
Let the riding lessons begin.  Hope has ridden on Darlin': Pappy's horse. But only holding the saddle's horn as Pappy leads.

Now she can use reigns!

She can make it turn right or left or go "Whoa" to stop.  Good thing she has recently learned her right from left!

Giddy Up!

Whoa!

Ahh... blue sky, budding leaves and a new horse!  Life is good.  Pappy's farm is so fun.  John, have you ever been hiking in the stream with all the big rocks?  I did not even know that part of Pappy's farm was there.  I did not have my camera for that adventure but I will bring it next time.

We have taken a lot of riding practice.  The silly cold weather thought it could keep Hope off her horse.  Think again silly weather!

As spring has crept in, the Maglinger crew has taken every single opportunity to get out doors.  We recently headed down to Mammoth Cave.  Will did not like being down there all that much, but Hope did well.  The park ranger let Hope turn the lights on and off in the cave as our tour went from section to section.  Meanwhile, Will is saying a tad too loudly "Get me out of this place!"  "Can that green man get me out of here?" (The park rangers wear green.)  No tears, just assertive requests to leave.

And we have fun close to home as well.  We hiked at Yellow Creek one day.  Loser mom was totally unprepared for the picnic we would have, so I headed to the nearby gas station and bought Pringles and hot dogs.  How's that for resourcefulness?

And just around the corner from our house is "Lewis Lane Park" as my kids like to call it.

But inside or out, Will is playing cars.

He may be a tad OCD.  He lines them all up going the same direction and then "counts" them.  (And other tendencies are popping up such as not liking a stray thread on his clothes, etc.)

Look! short sleeves and popsicles!  Spring, welcome back!
