Camp Sansom: staying cool

Well, I'm sure I don't have to tell you how HOT it has been here at Camp Sansom.  I hope you are staying cool where you are.  If not, take a cue from us: Get in the water!
Maybe splash in the pool?

Maybe set up your sprinkler and strip to your underwear and run through it.  Unless you are past that wonderful age where doing that in public is okay...then put on a swim suit or just stand in it wearing your clothes like I did.

Does your town have a spray park? Go there!

Or, buy a jug of 500 water balloons and convince Mom/Aunt Leigh Ann that it would be fun to fill them all up and have a water balloon fight!

Or, here's a good one! Make a water pinata!

Just fill up a grocery bag with water, tie it up and swing away until it breaks all over you.

Then, sit on your porch and enjoy a Popsicle.

Don't be bashful! Really get in to that Popsicle!  Stay cool!

Camp Sansom: Horsin' Around

One of many fun adventures that the day held was our horseback riding!
Big Pappy saddles Darlin'

This year Hope was a cowgirl!  Last year she was terribly afraid.  As you can see at the top, she started out timid but finished very strong!

But, if you're still not feelin' it, you can chill with Grammy and Hadley in the shade.

Some more softball

This year (it's a long story, but totally legal) Woody was able to rejoin his family for another season of Lewis Lane softball.  I'd forgotten how intense it was.  I was the book keeper so I was not able to really get many good photos. I kept hoping maybe I'd get some at the next game, but alas: our season ended too quickly in the tournament.  Don't worry these aren't taken the last game so you won't see any photos of grown men crying.
Woody (although you can't tell by his facial expression here) was thrilled to rejoin his brothers and dad.  I do like this picture because it so perfectly captures that side of Woody that you only get/have to see if you play sports with him.  Or if you drive home with him after a game.  You see it then, too.  People wonder if Woody ever gets mad: yep, he does.

I wasn't even able to get a picture of all the guys together.  I hate that.  So here you have them separate.  Playing mostly on the left side of the outfield somewhere: Serious Arthur.

Playing really anywhere in the outfield: Silly BJ. (a note on BJ: he cares the least, has to really be forced to play at all, never practices, forgets about the game before he's even out of the parking lot and is also the only Maglinger to have a home run in a game (over the fence that is) but was also the most consistent batter of the bunch.  He also had some amazing catches in the field as well.  Woody thinks BJ needs to practice and see what would happen then.  I say they all need to take a lesson on how relaxing can help your game!)

And my favorite player: Sweaty Woody III.  His hat could literally be rung out.  The RD in me wants to have him weigh before and after each game so that I know exactly how much fluid needs to be replaced.  The wife in me knows to just let him go have fun (if you can call the ulcer he gives himself before each game fun) and keep my book quietly, always agreeing that the umpire missed the call when he's out, etc.   Seriously though, Woody III has the most heart on the field and plays with much more maturity than even 7 years ago when I started watching him.   He may feel old after the game, but never shows his age when he is in his position at short stop.  I guess he learned it from his dad, Woody II who is not pictured here because typically at a game, he is in no mood for a photo op.  But, he did not let me down again this year: still sliding into base...head first when necessary.

Friends from First

There are lots of pictures here 'cause it was lots of fun!  When Woody and I started going to our young married class at First Baptist we were all young, and just married.  Now, we all have kids.  Some of us are on our 2nd.  (does this mean we can't stay in this class much longer?)  It's a great group of people and like the body of Christ should function: each has their own special gift to contribute.  Today I'm thankful for those with the gift of togetherness. I'm just not one to think of getting everyone together but some people  can send out a simple text and gather us all up for a great morning.  Thanks ladies!
We started out early for us (9am) at Panther Creek spray park.

Calla and Gabriel can't decide if this water thing is for them.

Oh but Elijah is all about it!

What fun to have a big group of friends to play with at our favorite spray park!

Hope is trying to convince Peyton to get wet.

See kids! It doesn't get any better than this!

Mason is just not so sure.  What a great mom is Jill to jump right in and get wet with him!

Melissa: The lady with the idea.

Hope's face. Just because I love Hope's face.

Look at this! Our little buddy Calla sucks her 2 fingers too!

Who knew a group of 8 or so moms would have a free Friday morning to gather out at the park?  What a good way to start our day.  Looking forward to next time girls!

Cousins

Hope's cousin Susanna:  They are only 2 months apart in age and only live 2 exits from us on the bypass.  You  would think we saw them all the time.  But, we just don't do a very good job at getting the girls together.  Maglinger events and softball games bring us together fairly often but just to get the girls together to play needs to be a bigger priority.  So, we had Susanna over to play a week or so ago and it went great.  Susanna's mom returned the favor this week and Hope was so excited to go and cried to leave.  See, we need to do this more!
Here they are "crafting."  This is one of Hope's favorite things to do.  We have a whole cabinet of craft supplies and now that school supplies are on sale, I'm having to restrain myself not to continue to stock up on 25 cent boxes of crayons and 40 cent bottles of Elmer's.  Hope is excited about the haircut that she is sure all girls who go to school get to have, but I am most excited about the school supply shopping trip!  (we still have a few years to wait!)

Hope was surprisingly okay with sharing her art supplies.  I was a bit surprised.  We are still working on that whole sharing thing.  As the afternoon went on, sharing became a little more challenging, but we started off great!

We did markers, paint pens, stickers, dot dobbers, glue and paint.  When the paint came out, my camera went away so no pictures of that.  It's cute how differently children do their art.  Hope paints all in one spot and mixes colors on top of each other basically until the paper tears from being wet. Susanna paints one line of each color and doesn't even let her colors touch each other.

We played lots of kitchen.  The special for the day was plastic Easter eggs.

There was also a variety show filled with lots of dancing and singing.  Look how much taller Susanna is than Hope!  Hope is so short! How did this happen?  Her 6'4 dad and 5'8 mother are scratching our heads!

softball days

As most of you already know, we spend a ton of time at the softball field in June/July.  Hope has been slightly more interested in the game this year.   It's sweet. One time, Woody got out and the other team cheered.  Hope was so excited and yelled "They are cheering for my Daddy!"  I didn't have the heart to correct her.  She has also spent some time here at the batting cages both with Dad and also with Brian, Woody's match through Mentor Kids.  She has waited and waited for her turn.  She dreamed of a purple bat and helmet, but pink was all there was and she didn't complain a bit when her day in the cage finally came.
Woody helping her swing.  I would also like to mention that for some reason, Dad thought going into the baseball pitching machine was a good idea...why not the softballs Wood?

Needing a hug from Mom when the ball hitting the bat stung her hand a bit.

Right back in there and ready for more, though!

I'm sure there will be plenty more of these type of pictures to come!

Just Plain Hilarious

This is what I found in the bathroom trash can this afternoon:
Turns out, instead of reading magazines (or his iphone) Woodrow likes to doodle- on the empty toilet paper roll.  This one appears to be a logo for a potential minor league baseball team.

And as far as I can tell, this is just the state of KY with Owensboro's place starred.

Then finally a logo for the science museum now that this morning's paper announced the buffalo skeleton found by the river will be moved to the museum.  Woody is funny. We love Woody.
